Background of the Study
Online dating applications have revolutionized the dynamics of romantic relationships by providing platforms that connect individuals beyond traditional social networks. In Ede North, these applications are increasingly used by diverse demographics seeking companionship, love, and long-term relationships (Ogunleye, 2023). Digital matchmaking processes facilitate greater interaction, enabling users to form relationships based on shared interests, values, and geographical proximity (Afolabi, 2024). Despite the convenience and wider pool of potential partners, concerns about authenticity, misrepresentation, and the superficiality of digital interactions persist (Bello, 2023). The evolution of these platforms has prompted new social norms, influencing the ways relationships develop and are maintained. Moreover, cultural nuances and regional attitudes towards digital dating add layers of complexity to relationship dynamics. This study critically investigates the influence of online dating applications on relationship quality and stability in Ede North, assessing both the advantages and potential drawbacks of such digital engagement (Ogunleye, 2023).
Statement of the Problem
Although online dating applications provide new opportunities for connection, their impact on the depth and sustainability of romantic relationships in Ede North remains unclear. Many users face issues such as miscommunication, unrealistic expectations, and superficial interactions, which may undermine relationship quality. There is limited empirical evidence on how digital dating affects trust, commitment, and emotional intimacy. Addressing these challenges is essential for understanding the evolving nature of romantic relationships in the digital age (Afolabi, 2024).
